President Guy Blaise Mayolas of the Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) has expressed his wish to see a nation from his zone conquer at the 34th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to kick-off this Saturday in C\u00f4te D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
The Congolese football administrator made the revelation in a recent interview prior to the continental soccer frenzy to run from January 13 to February 11 across different cities in the West African nation.<\/p>\n
Quizzed on his expectations from the central African nations at the tournament president Mayolas who was re-elected last October said he will be rooting for the three UNIFFAC members taking part in the competition<\/p>\n
“To see a country from this zone win a beautiful competition like the AFCON is a big satisfaction”, President Guy Blaise Mayolas said.<\/p>\n
He added that, “that is why I am wishing a good competition to representatives from the UNIFFAC zone like Cameroon, DR Congo and Equatorial Guinea. Give the best of yourselves,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
Last edition’s quarter-finalist Equatorial Guinea plus previous winners Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo will enter the competition from the zone sharing the same dream.<\/p>\n
The Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea are competing in Pool A, alongside hosts C\u00f4te D’Ivoire, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau while Cameroon are in group C with defending champions Senegal, Guinea and The Gambia.<\/p>\n
Two-time winners DR Congo will battle for supremacy with Tanzania, Zambia and 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalist Morocco in a tight Group F.<\/p>\n
Cameroon was the last UNIFFAC nation to win the AFCON back in 2017 after conquering Egypt in the final in Libreville.<\/p>\n
UNIFFAC nations count eight AFCON titles, with Cameroon’s five as the most while DR Congo and president Mayolas’ Congo have won the covered trophy too.<\/p>\n
Equatorial Guinea will be the first representative of the UNIFFAC zone to get into action on Sunday January, 14, when they take on Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Cameroon and DR Congo will play Guinea and Zambia respectively in their first group match.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that President Mayolas stood for the elections as UNIFFAC President unopposed and delegates from all eight UNIFFAC members settled for him as the leader of the zone’s football development vision through a process supervised by CAF fourth vice-president, Seidou Mbombo Njoya.<\/p>\n
President Mayolas will continue the transformation job he started in UNIFFAC just over two years ago by supporting UNIFFAC teams at the AFCON.<\/p>\n
After the AFCON president Mayolas, 61, will continue to steady the UNIFFAC ship and push for better days for football in Central Africa.<\/p>\n
