The Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) have opted to postpone their U-20 Women’s championship by a week per a decision issued by Mr Martin Etonge, the secretary general of the body this Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The three-nation competition which was initially scheduled to happen between December 26-30 this year in Douala, Cameroon has been moved to January 5-9 2024 due to undisclosed reasons.<\/p>\n

The move means UNIFFAC will start next year with competition as the women’s game will take center stage in a tournament set to last for 3 days – packed with high action and drama in January.<\/p>\n

Three Central African giants: Cameroon, Congo and the Central African Republic converge in Douala, for the biennial U20 women’s zonal tourney as the competition returns after a three-year absence.<\/p>\n

Testament to how competitive next year’s event will be, is the recent performances of the teams involved.<\/p>\n

The U20 Lionesses of Cameroon are trailblazing in the 2024 World Cup qualifiers, having gotten through to the fourth and final round.<\/p>\n

Congo made it through to the third round but lost to Egypt after defeating Namibia in the second round.<\/p>\n

The Central African Republic intend to use this year’s event to work on the growth of the women’s game.<\/p>\n

When the competition was last held in 2020, Equatorial Guinea emerged champions. However, this time, a new title holder is awaited due to the absence of Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

Congo and CAR are expected to arrive Cameroon from December 3-4th, with the opening match billed for January 5.<\/p>\n

Coach Hassan Balla’s Cameroon will raise the curtains against Congo, at the 39 thousand capacity Bepanda Omnisport stadium in the opener.<\/p>\n

A day later, the Central African Republic lock horns against Congo, before one last dance against Cameroon on January 9.<\/p>\n

The point accumulation system will be a yardstick to determine champions after three games played. In case of absolute parity, head to head will be examined.<\/p>\n
