Former Cameroon indomitable Lions’ midfielder, St\u00e9phane Mbia Etoundi has disclosed that current head coach of the team, Rigobert Song Bahanag, is doing a good job at the helm of the team despite the latter being a subject of public scrutiny for his low win ratio of 27% after 18 games.<\/p>\n
Mbia who took the armband from Samuel Eto’o Fils in 2014 and led his nation for two years made the remarks during a rexernt interview on Douala-based, Radio Sports Info (RSI).<\/p>\n
“Rigobert Song is doing a good job”, the former Cameroon international who does punditry jobs for CAF and FIFA these days stated.<\/p>\n
Despite Song’s low ratio Mbia pointed out the fact that Rigobert Song has qualified Cameroon for the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and deserves plaudits.<\/p>\n
“He has qualified the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the AFCON,” the former Sevilla and Queen Park Rangers midfielder said.<\/p>\n
Going by his ratios, Song has struggled during his time as coach of Cameroon. He has won five of 18 games as the head coach of the team. In that time he has failed to win against Namibia, Libya, Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Uzbekistan and Mexico but pulled stunners against Algeria in Blida in the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs and edged Brazil 1-0 at the eventual tournament.<\/p>\n
Mbia however called on the fans to be patient and support the head coach.<\/p>\n

Born on May 20, 1986, St\u00e9phane Mbia Etoundi began his football career with Kadji Sports Academy before joining Rennes in France.<\/p>\n
He played 179 games and scored nine goals in the French Ligue 1 playing for Rennes, Marseille and Toulouse. He spent two years at FC Sevilla, winning the Europa League in both years.<\/p>\n
Mbia made 68 appearances for Cameroon from 2005 to 2016 and scored five goals. He was included in the squads for the 2008 Olympics, two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and two FIFA World Cups.<\/p>\n
Mbia scored thrice in Cameroon’s running to the 2008 AFCON final in Egypt. Cameroon slumped to a 0-1 defeat against Egypt in the final owing to a defensive blunder from Song in what turned out to be his last AFCON tournament.<\/p>\n
