The president of the Senegalese football federation has squash reports announcing the departure of Aliou Ciss\u00e9 as head coach of the country’s flagship selection.<\/p>\n
The stands in Senegal and beyond were dominated by reports of a possible end of the Ciss\u00e9 era as coach of the Teranga Lions with multiple sources pinning on the below par display in the Qatar World Cup as liverage for the expected move.<\/p>\n
However, the federation’s El supremo Senghor in a recent interview with celebrated outlet ‘Record’ has clearly stated that the relationship with the 2022 CAF Coach of the year continues for at least the immediate future.<\/p>\n
“Ciss\u00e9 stays,” were the most powerful words from Senghor’s latest outing, who justified the move with their action plan.<\/p>\n
“We are in a project. It was planned that the former Senegal international be the one to take our team to Cote D’Ivoire for the AFCON title defense,” the FA boss added during an outing which confirms there will be a record fourth Africa Cup of Nations tournament for Ciss\u00e9 as custodian of the West African Nation’s main football team.<\/p>\n
The 45-year-old who achieved quarter-final, runners up and winner in the previous three events will continue working in serenity ahead of the January 2024 event.<\/p>\n
Ciss\u00e9 who took over from Amara Traor\u00e9 in 2015 signed a new bumper deal in October this year, with the obligation of making at least the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, qualify and win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately the CAF Coach of the year 2022 failed to attain the first objective. However, since his time at the helm of the Teranga Lions has brought some consistency and some remarkable returns to the nation, including reaching two AFCON finals, of which he won the 2021 edition in Cameroon and qualification for two FIFA World Cup tournaments, he will be retained.<\/p>\n
The Federation’s position about their manager who has won 53 of 83 games and recorded just 18 draws is logical and understandable.<\/p>\n
The Teranga Lions under the ex skipper will return to activity in March next year, with a fixture against Mozambique in Maputo, during Matchday three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.<\/p>\n
By the time they round up with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, in February 2024, Ciss\u00e9 will have been in charge for a record nine years.<\/p>\n
