{"id":12954,"date":"2023-11-17T08:06:23","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T08:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/?p=12954"},"modified":"2023-12-20T03:03:00","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T03:03:00","slug":"cameroon-alioum-ends-glittering-refereeing-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kick442.com\/fr\/cameroon-alioum-ends-glittering-refereeing-career\/","title":{"rendered":"Cameroon: Alioum ends glittering Refereeing career"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Alioum featured at his fifth AFCON tournament during the 2019 event in Egypt which he took charge of the opening and closing games<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>He was Referee at the Cup of Cameroon final, AFCON final, CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup finals<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Alioum struggled to get back to his best after damaging his ACL close to two years ago<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Celebrated Cameroonian referee, Alioum Siddi has put an end to a reference career after close to two decades as a professional match arbitrator.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 41-year-old confirmed his retirement after failing to show up for the routine FIFA referee maintenance exercise organized a few weeks ago in Yaound\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to the concerned have confirmed the decorated match official who missed last year&#8217;s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on home soil due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury will commit his resources in training the next generation of officials and serve as an instructor within and without the country.<\/p>\n<p>Alioum began his career in the Northern part of Cameroon and quickly established himself as one of the best in the country. He attracted FIFA recognition in 2008 when he was handed the FIFA badge.<\/p>\n<p>On the continent, he featured at five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, including being the referee in the final of the 2019 competition alongside compatriots Elvis Guy Noupoue and Menkouande Evariste. Alioum also took charge of a number of high-profile CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup games, including two finals.<\/p>\n<p>Globally, he appeared at two FIFA World Cup tournaments, two FIFA U-17 World Cup tournaments and the 2011 U-20 FIFA World Cup amongst others during his unforgettable ride as a referee.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, IFFHS named him the 17th best referee in the World and the best in Africa, highlighting how good he was.<\/p>\n<p>His retirement leaves Cameroon without an Elite division referee as his heir apparent, Ngwa Blaise Yuven still have a few years before he attains the Alioum standards.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA is expected to publish the list of Referees retained for the 2023\/24 football year in the days ahead.
