Southwest flagbearers in the MTN Elite 2 championship Victoria United FC of Limbe picked up an emphatic 4-0 win at home to Leopards Sportif of Douala on Wednesday at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.<\/p>\n
Goals from substitute Tony, Deutia, and Ashu quickly changed the phase of the game midway into the second segment, as coach Guy Berlin’s replacement provided just what was expected.<\/p>\n
In the absence of some regulars including captain Etchu Perry and keeper Peter Defang, the game started on a slow pace as the host struggled to hit their regular gear.<\/p>\n
The Victoria United FC bench needed just 33 minutes to make the bold decision of replacing Paul Mbuh who was not at his best in the midfield. That change made OPOPO better but the score remained unchanged till the interval.<\/p>\n
Upon return for the second segment, Yindui Bouba and co struggled to get the right connection with Mbonjo Clovis and his attacking colleagues.<\/p>\n
The lack of purpose from the front line saw coach Guy introduce new signing Jacques Ebene Kevin who had played for Unisport against Victoria United earlier in the season and Tony who is still recovering from injury.<\/p>\n
Both players brought more mobility and purpose in the final third.<\/p>\n
Within seven minutes on the pitch, Victoria United United was 2-0 to the good. First Ebene combined with Tony for the opener before Deutia doubled the advantage.<\/p>\n
Ashu pounced on a defensive mistake between Leopard’s keeper and their center-back to make it 3-0 and Tony completed his brace in the 83rd minute to cap a commanding display within a very short time.<\/p>\n
Both sides had and squandered chances in the closing segments of the game, but in all Gerard Bakinde and his Leopard colleagues came cooked in the presence of Victoria United and their hundreds of fans at the historic stadium.<\/p>\n
OPOPO are third and tied with second-placed Racing on seven points, two behind Foncha Street who won all three games so far and have played a game less.<\/p>\n
