The indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach, Rigobert Song is scratching his head after his team suffered two major injury blows days before their decisive AFCON 2023 qualifier against the Swallows of Burundi.<\/p>\n

Newcomer Francois Regis Mughe of Olympique Marseille followed fellow forward Nicolas Moumie Ngamaleu both failed to finish Saturday’s training session at the Roumde Adjia Annex stadium, owing to different injuries.<\/p>\n

Mughe appeared to have picked up an ankle problem as he limped off before receiving treatment from the medical staff who offered to place a pack of ice around it like for Ngamaleu who had the same situation on his knee.<\/p>\n

Though the medical staff of the team is yet to communicate about the nature of the injury, it’s likely the decision to pull both players out was more of a preventive one.<\/p>\n

Ngamaleu, who returns to Garoua after years of service and departure from Cotonsport is expected to play a part in Cameroon’s quest to conquer Burundi and reach the Africa Cup of Nations finals in C\u00f4te D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n

Mughe is in his baby steps in the Lions den, having being drafted in for the first time following his early season exploits at Olympique Marseille.<\/p>\n

Saudi-based Karl Toko Ekambi also missed Saturday’s training session but reports have it that the technical and medical crew opted to rest him.<\/p>\n

Cameroon is currently second in Group C with four points from three qualifiers matches going into Tuesday’s cliffhanger against Burundi at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua.<\/p>\n

The five-time African champions need a win or a draw with four or more goals to reach next year’s tournament.<\/p>\n
