Morocco reserves the right not to attend the BRICS- Africa outreach event to be held on August 24, 2023 in Sandton (Johannesburg) on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, for the following reasons:<\/p>\n
– South Africa’s mobilization over the past several weeks to invite the Polisario to the BRICS-Africa outreach event clearly demonstrates Pretoria’s desire to divert this event from its nature and purpose, and to serve an agenda aimed at harming the Kingdom’s interests.
\n– South Africa’s malicious and hostile initiative to invite the Polisario is simply a reaction to the country’s failure to obtain African support for the Polisario separatists, as well as to the solemn call in Tangier to expel the Polisario from the African Union. The Tangier appeal was signed by several African countries.
\n– The 4 other BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, China and India) have made it clear that they do not recognize the Polisario.
\n– South African diplomacy is notorious for its unpredictable and non-compliant management of events of this kind. This is evidenced by the irregularities noted at protocol and organizational levels, coupled with the reluctance expressed by several countries not to take part in the BRICS-Africa outreach event.
\n– In fact, Eswatini will not be taking part in the BRICS-Africa outreach event, as the South African authorities failed to extend the invitation to this country, which should have been present because it belongs to the same sub-region as South Africa. Thus, the invitation from Eswatini was not sent by Pretoria, at the risk of displeasing China.<\/p>\n
– In view of the above, Morocco can never take part in an event organized by a country whose main aim is to undermine its territorial integrity.
\n– However, the Kingdom remains committed, together with the other BRICS partner countries, to achieving the strategic objectives of this grouping, namely strengthening economic cooperation and promoting development in various areas of common interest.<\/p>\n
