The road to continental glory for Africa’s brightest young talents enters a decisive phase on Thursday, as the draw for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Cairo.

Under the auspices of the Confederation of African Football, the ceremony is scheduled for 13:00 local time in the Egyptian capital, setting the stage for a tournament that will unfold in Morocco from April 25 to May 15, 2026.

Sixteen nations have secured their places at the finals, representing a diverse and competitive cross-section of African football. Among them are former heavyweights and emerging forces, including Cameroon, Senegal, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, and hosts Morocco, who arrive in confident mood after a flawless campaign in the UNAF U-17 tournament.

Morocco’s young Atlas Lions underlined their credentials with a commanding 3-1 victory over Libya in Benghazi, completing a perfect run that also saw them overcome Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt. That form positions them as one of the teams to watch heading into the tournament on home soil.

The full list of qualified teams features:
Cameroon, Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Beyond continental honours, the stakes are even higher. The competition will serve as Africa’s qualifying pathway to the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, adding further intensity to what is already one of the most important development tournaments on the African football calendar.

Adding star power to the draw ceremony will be Fiston Mayele, the reigning African-based Player of the Year, who has been confirmed as one of the draw assistants.
