DR Congo football legend Trèsor Mputu Mabi has announced his desire to persuit a new career in politics less than a month after quitting professional football.
The TP Mazembe star and national hero says he has opened a future in the political realm and will run for legislative elections in the district of Tshangu, in the outskirts of the Kinshasa Province.
Mputu is set to join the ‘Ensemble pour la Republique’ political party championed by his ‘godfather’ Moise Katumbi who gave him everything being his president at TP Mazembe for close to two decades.
Katumbi who shaped Mputu’s career is running for the national presidential elections in the DRC under the same party.

Having a figure as popular as Mputu on board represents a lot for Katumbi’s aspirations of becoming the president of DRC.
There have been lots of commentaries since Mputu revealed his latest move with some suggesting he is inexperienced in the field of politics.
Its worth noting that Robert Kidiaba who was Mputu’s international and club colleague has since become a Member of Parliament.
These days a number of retired footballers have delved into politics and are doing well.
The likes of George Weah, Samuel Eto’o Fils, Andriv Shevchenko have obtained plaudable political feats after resignation from the beautiful game.
