Coach Casimir Mangue got off to a perfect start on Wednesday as Noe Toko Toko scored a hat-trick to earn a comfortable 3-0 win for Aigle Royal of Moungo against fellow promotion contenders Stade Bertoua.
Toko was simply scintillating in the afternoon at the Japoma Annex stadium, scoring all goals as Aigle earned a ninth victory in 21 MTN Elite 2 championship matches this season, three days after coach Casimir joined the club.
The win enhance the promotion chances of Aigle and slows down Stade who remain third with 33 points, same as Aigle.
The host got off to a great start, dominated the opening moments of the game but squandered two glaring chances with 15 minutes.
Toko scored his first of the afternoon 17 minutes into the contest. He pounced on a fine cross into the penalty area and made the Stade defense to pay.
There were chances for either side to cause the fans to celebrate again, but the contest remained on the 1-0 advantage for the host till the interval whistle happened.
Aigle returned from the break with the same energy with which they started and were rewarded in an almost similar fashion and moment.
Toko scored his second in the 63rd minute and completed his hat-trick five minutes from the end of regulation time.
In the end, Stade were truly beaten as it finished 3-0, highlighting their away form all season and Aigle’s strength at home.
Aigle gained two places on the log after the result, moved above Stade into the third spot, seven points off leaders Victoria United FC and three points away the second promotion spot currently occupied by AS Lausanne.
Aigle travels to Limbe on Wednesday to face Elite One-destined Victoria United FC.
