30-year-old Cameroonian forward karl Toko Ekambi, has decided never to come back to French Ligue 1 side Olympiques Lyonnais.
The striker decried the shameful and embarrassing attitude of the club’s supporters in an interview with Sofoot.com this Tuesday, revealing he was insulted in the presence of his mother.
The former Villarreal goal poacher voiced how he was humiliated and vowed never to return to the colors of the club that loaned him to Stade Rennes in January.
“My mother was on the stadium that famous day, watching how l was shamefully humiliated by the Lyon supporters.”
“And l am copiously insulted by two kops., Toko ni… Your mother. Toko….nulll….. Your mother. Singing that while my mother is around. You can dislike a player, you can whistle at him, provoke him. But when it goes away with insults, it’s different,” He added.
While struggling under the leadership of Frenchman Laurent Blanc, Toko managed to score four goals for Lyon.
The former SCO Angers forward joined Stade Rennes on a loan until the end of the season from rivals Lyon, but must now find a new club if Rennes decide against making the move permanent.
Professional Football is usually more exciting when the fans support players. To Toko, his best moment has been achieved in the colors of his country.
“I believe that a year after my first selection, we won AFCON 2017. Its one of the best memories of my career. There is also, this qualifying goal of mine for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Algeria, I will always remember,” Toko concluded.
However, Toko is enjoying football again at Stade Rennes. He has boosted the side, who are fifth on the current Ligue 1 standings. But have lost top scorer Martin Terrier for the rest of the season to a knee injury.
