The much anticipated 2025/2026 Southwest regional league championship has kicked off this Saturday, March 14 at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium with Options Sports Academy of Limbe and Fako United picking up victories.
Buea City FC have suffered the first defeat of the Southwest Regional League football season, following a 2-1 loss to Options Sports Academy of Limbe in the opening game of championship.
The host were unable to deny visiting Options Sports Victory after eventually equalizing as a second half error from defense man Ngole Laintex caused them the game after he scored in his own pole in an attempt to deny Neyou Franck’s attempt.
Options’ Darwin Godwill drew first blood 32’ minutes into the game before Bah Lesley equalized eight minutes later.
The second half own goal sealed a 2-1 win for the Limbe based club who now takes the lead in Pool C, that houses just 5 teams, the only exception of four group with six teams each.
Kickoff for the second game of the day was done by the National Vice President of FECAFOOT Pascal Abunde, personal representative of the Federation’s president Samuel Eto’o.
The intense clash saw Fako United restore the city’s pride as host of the opening games after Kumba City failed to do so. The Njoku boys outsmarted Best Stars Academy of Limbe 2-1, thanks to goals from Luiz Ngole 14 minutes into the game and Njako Festus who won it after half the hour mark.
Mukete Junior introduced as a substitute in the second segment, scored the lone goal for the Academicians. His 52 minutes strike brought hope to coach Djeufack Saturnin’s side. However, it was insufficient to avoid defeat as all effort to get at least a point were futile.
The two games of the day unfolded before several football stakeholders in the region and a huge number if football lovers. In attendance was regional president Valery Nchiakeh Ndazeh, accompanied by visiting stakeholders from sister region-Northwest, including it’s president Mr Pase Jefter and Secretary General Ndi Elvis Tsembom.
The rest of matches counting for day one of the league continues this Sunday across the region including crisis hit Mamfe who will experience the joy of football again after several years.
