Sudan is gearing up for a crucial phase in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) semifinal with the addition of six players to their squad.

Ghanaian tactician James Kwesi Appiah placed the call to blend their expertise with the locally-based talent typically in the ongoing CHAN tournament.

The players joining the squad include skilled midfielder Abuaagla Abdalla, playing for Al-Hilal SC, known for his key performances for both club and country.

Tayfour Adam is also part of the contingent, bringing his talent to the team. One of the notable inclusions is Abobaker Mamoun Eisa, also known as Abo Eisa, a dynamic winger currently playing for Nongbua Pitchaya in Thailand.

Abo Eisa is brother to Mo Eisa, another player in the squad. Mo Eisa is an experienced forward currently plying his trade at Nassaji Mazandaran in Iran. Seifeldin Malek Bakhit Makki, commonly known as Saif Terry, a prolific striker for Al-Nasr SC in the Libyan Premier League and a regular goal-scorer for Sudan, equally makes the cut. His ability to find the back of the net will be an asset to the team. John Otenyal Kahems adds some youth to the contingent of players.

With these players, Appiah aims to enhance Sudan’s confidence in the CHAN tournament and provide a strong foundation for their World Cup qualification campaign.

Under Appiah’s guidance, Sudan has achieved significant success, including topping their group in the CHAN 2024 and making a promising start in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. More so, Appiah has led Sudan to the semifinals of the 2024 CHAN, where they defeated Algeria 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Kwesi Appiah’s appointment in September 2023 has instilled a much-needed sense of self-belief and grit into the Sudanese national team, resulting in two CAF national team competition qualifications. Aside from the CHAN, Sudan secured their ticket to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

This strategic move is expected to boost team chemistry and quality, ultimately giving Sudan a competitive edge in the forthcoming weeks.

Sudan will take on Senegal on September 5, with the Teranga Lions in a delicate position in Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The group, which also features DR Congo, Mauritania, Togo, and South Sudan, has been highly competitive, with both Sudan and Senegal making strong bids for qualification.

The two teams have already clashed once in the qualifiers, meeting on March 22, 2025, in a match that ended nil-all.

This result was significant for Sudan, as it allowed them to maintain their top half position in the group standings (3rd). The game is expected to be a crucial test for both teams, as they vie for a spot in the World Cup.
