  • Simon Omossola made five saves on Sunday to help Saint Eloi Lupopo to their first domestic championship win of the season
  • Omossola’s efforts fetched him a first clean sheet in one outing
  • He will be in Cameroon this Monday to start camping with the rest of the 24 players invited by Cameroon’s coach Marc Brys

Simon Omossola Medjo Loti enhanced his reputation as one of the best in the goalkeeping business by keeping a clean sheet for St Eloi Lupopo this Sunday in their opening fixture of the season as they picked up a 1-0 win at home to US Tshinkunku at the Kibassa Maliba Stadium.

Omossola pulled a string of saves during the game while Lise Nyembo Ntumba scored the winner to ensure Saint Eloi made a winning start to the 2024/25 season.

The build up to the game characterized by relative calm in the Eloi camp in Congo though back in Cameroon there were disturbing rumours about Omossola’s future. Eloi debunked rumours of his departure, and as if that wasn’t enough handed him a place in the starting XI.

There was very little creativity in the opening 45 minutes as both sides studied each other and tried to find ways to find out the other.

The breakthrough happened earlier in the second segment when Ntumba pounced on a well-worked ball into the box to put host ahead after 51 minutes.

The goal made the already alert Eloi backline even more combative as they gave their maximum till the end of the game to finally obtain a 1-0 win from their first outing.

The win and clean sheet for Omossola just before the international break puts his tail up before he travels to Cameroon to link up with the rest of his international colleagues preparing for the Kenya doubleheader this week.

Omossola, Simon Ngapandouetnbu and André Onana Onana have been retained by Marc Brys as Cameroon’s keeper for the coming matches.
