The 2023/24 Southwest Regional championship of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) will be launched on Saturday, January 5, kick442.com can confirm.
The information was made public on Wednesday, November 22 in a release signed by Agbor Besong Joseph in his capacity as the Secretary General of the regional body.
Wednesday’s release carefully spells out the plan of action for the coming season as the region embarks on another marathon period of activities.
The document in question has revealed Southwest FECAFOOT’s activities for the coming season will begin on November 29, via a meeting with presidents of Divisional League clubs from all affiliated divisions of the region.
The meeting is aimed at setting modalities for the upcoming divisional championship, and a week later, on December 8, there will be a regional seminar for clubs staffs in charge of the transfer management system and FIFA connect among others.
A regional administrative council meeting and a regional general assembly have been scheduled on December 12 and 15 respectively. Both events will help shape the format of the championship after which promotion and maintenance of match Referees will be done between December 19-20. That of match commissioners has been planned to happen two days later.
After the above formalities, the championship proper will get underway on January 5, everything being equal.
Calendar of activities for the 2023/24 Southwest Regional championship
The Southwest Regional championship has become a subject of national interest in the past four years or so as clubs have invested a little more than usual to give themselves a more attractive status and enhance their chance of succeeding or export their players.
The past two winners of the Southwest Regional championship have gone on to secure promotion to higher tier championships. Victoria United FC achieved the feat in 2022 as vice champions, behind Aigle Royal of Moungo. Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) on their part emerged champions of the 2023 competition, after going on a run of ten games without conceding, dating back from the regional playoffs.
Last season’s championship saw the promotion of ISOHSA to the MTN Elite Two championship while Ajax Likomba, Nemfa of Nguti plus Njalla Quan Sports Academy and Options Sports Academy of Limbe were all relegated. However, per information on our Editoral desk, the latter will be reinstated.
Elecsport, Manyu FC, Panesta FA of Kumba and Kamjo Sports Academy are expected to complete the 30 clubs line up for the coming season.
In the past three years, only clubs from Fako, Meme, Manyu have participated in the championship as the clubs of the other three divisions of the region are faced with multiple challenges, including logistics and lack of funds amongst others
