Cameroon’s Intermediate Lions coach, Soh Simplice, has named a preliminary 30-man squad for the Africa Nations Championship qualifiers against the Central African Republic this December.

This marks Simplice’s inaugural assignment since taking the helm, and he faces the challenge of selecting players based on last season’s performances due to the league’s delayed restart. His squad blends seasoned internationals with emerging talents.

Leading the goalkeeping contingent is Cameroon international Marcelin Mbabhi, joined by Idrissou Nfor and Samuel Ellimbi. After a lengthy absence, Mbabhi returns to the national setup following stellar displays with Gazelle, where he played a pivotal role in their playoff run.

Nfor’s heroics were instrumental in Colombe clinching their first domestic title, as his crucial saves ensured a clean sheet throughout the campaign.

Fresh from the U20 UNIFFAC tournament in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Wilfred Douala Nathan, Boris Mfoumou, Hamidou Hamza, and Dawai Frederique have also been included. Mfoumou finished last season as the league’s third-highest scorer with 16 goals, earning his first call-up to the Intermediate Lions.

Richmond Nji, previously overlooked for U20 and U23 duties, now gets his chance to shine on the international stage. Additionally, Nchindo, a standout from Yosa last season, returns after featuring with the senior Indomitable Lions in June.

Notably, Simplice has included three players from the third tier: Jules Legrand Kebel, top scorer of the Littoral Regional League with Caiman who has since joined Caiman; Abagana Moussa from Botafogo; and Nanguia Robin of Ofta of Kribi.
