Indomitable Lions’ forward Leandre Kana Tawamba was one of two scorers on Friday night as Al Taawoun recorded a surprised 2-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nasr to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2023/24 Saudi Arabia Professional football championship season.
Tawamba’s header midway into the first-half plus a stoppage time goal from substitute Ahmed Bahusayn was enough to earn maximum points for coach Péricles Chamusca on the night Cristiano Ronaldo and mates were completely outplayed at home.
Al Taawoun was visibly the more daring side in the opening moments of the match day two fixture, having picked up only a point in their first game of the season.
Though there were half chances for both sides in the opening quarter of the game, it remained goalless.
Tawamba silenced the home fans at the KSU Football Field when he connected and headed home a well-worked corner from Matheus at the 20th minute to make it 1-0.
Though Al Nasr improved after conceding and creating more chances the visitors defended well to take the slight advantage to the break that was delayed after a VAR check was used to deny the host a penalty initially awarded them.
The second segment was a new picture of the first with chances at a premium.
The lone goal scorer Tawamba was replaced in the 88th minute, just before Bahusayn came on to score the second to seal their first three points of the season and confirm Al Nasr’s second defeat in the championship this season.
The win leaves Al Taawoun with four points and on the 4th spot while pointless Al Nasr are 15th.
Tawamba and his mates will host Ahba in match day three of the championship next Friday at the Al Taawoun Club stadium.
