Africa is on the move. With just days to go before the kickoff of AFCON 2025, an ambitious continental road trip has hit the highways with one mission: to unite Africans through football and let the continent tell its own story. Known as “Destination Morocco 2025 – Land of Football”, the caravan brings together more than fifty journalists, influencers, creators and communication professionals from across Africa for a cultural and sporting odyssey spanning eight countries.

The journey began in Cotonou, where the project enjoyed a colourful three-day launch from 3 to 5 December. It was an immersion into Beninese energy, culture and football passion — and an early glimpse of what this road trip aims to showcase across the continent.

A vibrant launch in Benin sets the tone

Benin was deliberately chosen as the starting point: a hub of heritage, hospitality and modern African identity. Over three lively days, participants took part in a gala football match with local young talents, engaged in a press conference at the Golden Tulip, and visited the iconic Amazon statue, a symbol of courage and Benin’s proud history.

From the very first moments, the caravan set a clear direction: this journey will highlight an Africa that is youthful, vibrant, creative and deeply connected to its cultural roots — yet firmly looking forward together.

“Telling Africa’s story through its own voices”

At the heart of the project lies a deliberate commitment to African storytelling. Project promoter Zelkifli Rahman Ngoufonja, known as Zul, explained that the caravan is above all a platform for young African voices: creators, journalists, influencers and media actors who will narrate the journey in their own style.

This initiative also aligns with Morocco’s growing stature as a major force in African football, after hosting several major competitions in recent years and preparing to stage AFCON 2025 and co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Sport as a driver of social change

Among the standout figures in the caravan is world grappling champion and former MMA fighter Djihene Abdellilah, whose personal journey embodies resilience, self-belief and transformation.
She emphasised the social value of sport — its power to open doors, inspire dreams and change lives.

Her perspective added a human depth to the initiative: behind the cameras, kilometres and daily content lies a real ambition to inspire. To show that young Africans can be the authors of their own narratives, and that football remains one of the continent’s strongest unifying forces.

A route designed to connect Africa

The caravan is now rolling through a carefully designed itinerary that spans eight countries:
Benin – Togo – Ghana – Côte d’Ivoire – Guinea – Senegal – Mauritania – Morocco, with a grand arrival set for 20 December in Rabat, just days before the start of the tournament.

Each stop will feature community events, cultural discoveries, football activities with local youth, and live content production — adding a fresh chapter to the unfolding story of this continental adventure.

Building excitement and unity ahead of AFCON 2025

Supported by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Visit Morocco, and Royal Air Maroc, the road trip serves as both a promotional drive and a symbolic bridge between African peoples.

More than just a journey, “Destination Morocco 2025” is a statement — a celebration of African identity, unity and creativity. It is an invitation to see, hear and feel the continent through its own storytellers, from highways to neighbourhoods, from capitals to cultural landmarks.

As the caravan moves north toward Morocco, one question lingers in the air:
What better way to build momentum for AFCON than by letting Africa tell its own story, one country at a time?
