Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid have completed the signing of experienced Cameroonian midfielder Martin Hongla Yma II on a loan deal for the rest of the season.
The Cameroon international joins Real from Hellas Verona after his parent club put him up for sale but couldn’t find a permanent option.
This move marks a return Spain for the former Barcelona B and Granada CF midfielder who was once considered to be the next big thing in the land gets a chance to restore his reputation.
Hongla, 24, joined Hellas during the 2021/22 season, initially on loan before making the move permanent. In all, the midfielder made 27 appearances and scored once during his time at the club. Unfortunately game time dried off since the start of the current season, prompting the return to Spain.
The Academy Nkufo graduate played 52 games for Granada and Barcelona B and knows land very well and is expected to hit the ground running from the off.
Valladolid is the seventh club the ex-FC Karpaty Lviv and Royal Antwerp playmaker will represent in the eighth year of his young career.
A native from Yaounde, Hongla has won 31 caps for his country at senior international level after graduation from Under-17, Under-20, through Under-23 categories. He was part of the Cameroon squad that finished third at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament on home soil and, also made two appearances for his country during the 2022 FIFA World Cup last month in Qatar.
