Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo have completed the permanent signing of Ghanaian teenager Bernard Somuah Sarpong from Asante Kotoko SC following an impressive loan spell.

The 19-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract running until June 2030, with Celta activating the purchase option included in the initial agreement between the two clubs.

Somuah joined the La Liga outfit on loan from Asante Kotoko and quickly adapted to Spanish football, progressing through the club’s youth structure before establishing himself with Celta Fortuna, the reserve side competing in Spain’s Primera Federación.

Rapid rise in Spain

After beginning with the club’s Juvenil side, Somuah earned promotion to the reserves, where his pace, direct running and attacking flair made him one of the standout young players in the squad.

He featured regularly in the third tier, contributing important goals and gaining valuable experience in senior football. His performances convinced the club’s hierarchy to secure his services on a permanent basis.

Celta view the Ghanaian as a long-term project with first-team potential, and the length of the deal reflects their confidence in his development.

From Kumasi to Vigo

Somuah emerged through the ranks of Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs, before making the switch to Spain. His move represents another example of young Ghanaian talent transitioning from the domestic Premier League to European football.

For Kotoko, the deal underlines the club’s ability to nurture players capable of earning opportunities abroad, while for Somuah it marks a significant step in what is shaping up to be a promising career.

Still only 19, he now has the platform and stability to continue his progression in one of Europe’s most competitive football environments.
