Pedro Goncalves, the head coach of the Palancas Negras of Angola says he is targeting qualification for the finals as they approach their match day three and four Africa Cup of Nations qualifier confrontations against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Pedro’s Angola jointly share top spot in Group E with Ghana, who also have four points from the opening two games. Both Nations return to action this Friday at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

Ahead of the fixture, Pedro says he is on a mission to inspire Angola’s return to the AFCON scene.

The Portuguese tactician took advantage of his chit chat with lead Ghanaian media outlet GhanaSportspage.com this Wednesday to reveal his plans.

“For us, the most important is to qualify for the AFCON at the end of the six rounds.

So far, we are leading the group with Ghana. Very soon we will be playing round three and round four against the favorite of the group. Surely it will be a very difficult match but we don’t have to be afraid if we want to compete with the big teams. Let’s play football and try to beat Ghana,” Coach Pedro stated.

Angola’s last AFCON participation was in 2019 in Egypt. That one ended in a disappointing group stage exit.

Angola who can boast of seven AFCON participation will enter the contest at the Baba Yara stadium with the knowledge that a good result will be a major step towards qualification for the 2023 tournament scheduled in January – February in Cote D’Ivoire. If that happens it will boast Angola’s eighth participation chances.
