Leicester City’s Zambian striker Patson Daka is good enough to play for any club he wants in the Premier League or the Championship in England, compatriot and mentor Lee Kawanu said.
The Kafue Celtic FC owner, whose club groomed Daka, said this on Zambia’s WhatsApp group ZFZ on Tuesday when clarifying on the remarks he made on his compatriot in an interview with Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.
Kawanu said his remarks neither implied that Daka should stick to the relegated Leicester nor join a Premier League team, but rather it is up to him and his management team to decide.
“I said I don’t think there’s one particular best option for him because as a player who has been in England for two seasons, he should be able to play at any club both in the EPL and in the Championship,” he said.
“I also said between his management team and himself I am very sure they will make a decision that is best for his career at the moment. My personal opinion is that if he stayed with Leicester, it would be good for him to get more game-time and build his confidence as he helps them bounce back to the EPL. But also joining a mid-table team in the EPL could work for him if the club suits his style of play and the coach believes in him. But ultimately, I would love for him to stay in England. Period!”
The former Salzburg Red Bull forward struggled for game-time in the just-ended season, as the former champions were relegated to the Championship after interim manager Dean Smith failed to steady the ship he found sinking when replacing sacked Brendan Rodgers.
Leicester City News has been reporting that Burnley, Brighton and Manchester United are among the potential suitors for the 24-year-old.
Daka has since retained his place in Zambia’s Chipolopolo latest call-up which Zambia coach Avram Grant, the ex-Chelsea boss, has released.
Zambia host Ivory Coast on June 17 2023 in the qualifiers for the next edition of AFCON which the Elephants will host.
