Nigeria edged Cameroon 1-0 to qualify for the fourth round of the Paris 2024 Olympics in Abuja on Monday.
The first leg in Douala ended in a 0-0 with the Super Falcons scoring two goals which were canceled out for infringements.
American coach of Nigeria Randy Waldrum replaced Halimatu Ayinde and Asisat Oshoala with Jennifer Echegini and Esther Okoronkwo and the change paid off.
For Cameroon’s Jean Baptiste Bisseck, he gave captain Aboudi Onguene Gabrielle a starting shirt.
Okoronkwo scored the winner in the 14th minute from a goal-mouth scramble after a good play by Juventus forward, Echegini.
Rasheedat Ajibade and Okoronkwo had other chances of extending the lead for the Super Falcons but wasted them.
Onguene almost equalised for the Indomitable Lionesses in the second half but her header was saved by Super Falcons goalie Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Cameroon were reduced to ten players after the referee sent substitute, Engambeng Felicia off for a foul on Nnadozie.
Nigeria booked a place in the final round and will face either South Africa or Tanzania for a place in the women’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
