African champions, South Africa senior women’s national team will face record African champions, Nigeria in the fourth and final round of the Paris 2024 Olympics after a 1-0 win over Tanzania in the return leg of the third round clash.
The first leg ended 3-0 in favour of Banyana Banyana in Tanzania.
Coach Desiree Ellis made four changes to the team that won the first leg.
Lonathemba Mhlongo, Gabriela Salgado, Fikile Magama, and Amogelang Motau replaced Lebohang Ramalepe, Noko Matlou, Hildah Magaia, and Kholosa Biyana respectively.
Jermaine Seoposenwe also earned her 100th cap for the Southern Africa side.
Tanzania started players predominantly from champions, JKT Queens and Yanga Princess with Turkish-based Opa Clement as the major star.
The Tanzania put the ball at the back of the net in the 37th minute but the goal was ruled out for an offside.
The first half ended in a barren draw.
Thembi Kgathlana converted the winning goal in the 58th minute from a low free kick by Biyana.
With a 4-0 win on aggregate, Banyana Banyana and Super Falcons will play a two-legged encounter in April to decide one of two African slots for the women’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
