Two African representatives at the men’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics qualified for the semi-final on Friday.

Morocco thrashed the United States of America (USA) 4-0 at the Parc Des Princes to get closer to their first medal in football at the Olympics.

Two penalties from Soufiane Rahimi and El Mehdi Maouhoub lifted the North Africans to a comfortable win.

Inspirational captain, Achraf Hakimi scored the third goal after Ilias Akhomach doubled the lead.

They will face Spain which dumped out Japan in the last four.

Meanwhile, another African representative from North Africa, Egypt, had to rely on penalties to defeat Paraguay in the quarter-final at the Stade Velodrome, Marseille.

Diego Lopez opened the scoring for the South American side before a goal from Ibrahim Adel in the 88th minute took the match into extra time.

Egypt emerged victorious 5-4 on penalties to set up a semi-final clash with host France.

Four African teams started the journey with Mali and Guinea bowing out in the group stage.

Morocco and Egypt hope to add to the African rich medal history at the men’s event of the Olympics.

Ghana won the continent’s first medal with a bronze before Nigeria won gold at Atlanta in 1996.

Cameroon followed suit with the gold medal at Sydney 2000, while Nigeria went on to complete a silver and bronze medal at Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016, respectively.
