ONIES replies FECAFOOT’s request for Roumde Adja stadium

• FECAFOOT’s plans to move Cameroon’s AFCON qualifier clash against Namibia to Garoua is faced with a fresh challenge
• The national institution in charge of infrastructures say they can’t ready the facility on time for the September 7 appointment 
• This puts FECAFOOT with just the Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé and Bepanda Omnisport stadium options for the game 

The National Sports and Infrastructures Office (ONIES) has informed the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) that it will not be able to meet their demand for the Roumde Adja stadium in Garoua on September 7.

FECAFOOT had written and requested ONIES prepares the venue for the game against Namibia next month after they received a late call to cancel the use of Japoma Omnisport stadium due to meteorological challenges.

Despite the recommendation of Sports and Physical Education education minister to play the game in Yaoundé, FECAFOOT rather opened negotiations with Garoua Omnisport stadium managers. They have sent a feedback on Tuesday, August 27 informing FECAFOOT they don’t have sufficient time to prepare the venue for the game.

The move from ONIES has sparked controversy across national football corners but the infrastructures managers have given their word, while looking at their technical realities.

If the words of Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi represent government position as it has always been, then the game will be moved to the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé. A move to Yaoundé will make it a third adjustment to the match venue in the heart of an unending battle between FECAFOOT.

Cameroon open their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at home to Namibia on September 7, before travelling to Kampala to confront Zimbabwe on match day two of the journey to Morocco next year.
