Aigle Royal du Moungo claimed their first win of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Aigle Royal de la Menoua on Matchday 7 of the MTN Elite One.
In a clash between two sides sharing the same name but heading in different directions, it was the Nkongsamba outfit who showed greater cutting edge in the final third and more control in key moments.
Jean-Baptiste Onana opened the scoring after a lively start, finishing off a well-worked move to give the hosts the early advantage. The Moungo side looked sharper in transition and more assured in their build-up play. Janis Ebelle then doubled the lead, capitalising on space in the box to put daylight between the two teams.
Menoua responded through Eric Abanke, who pulled one back to set up a tense finale. For a brief spell, the visitors pushed higher up the pitch and tried to force errors, but their final ball lacked precision. Despite late pressure, they could not find the equaliser.
Coach Patrice Fotso’s side were organised and disciplined, holding their shape and managing the tempo well in the closing stages. The back line dealt calmly with crosses and long balls as Menoua chased the game.
For Moungo, this result could mark a turning point. After a slow start to the campaign, they finally have three points on the board and renewed belief as the season gathers pace.
For Menoua, however, the slide continues. After an encouraging opening-day win away to Unisport of Bafang, they have struggled for consistency, dropping points through a mix of defeats and draws. This latest setback leaves them edging closer to the relegation zone, with pressure mounting ahead of the next round of fixtures.
