Greek side Aris Thessaloniki have secured the signing of Cameroonian midfielder Martin Hongla from Granada CF, finalizing a deal that sees the experienced central midfielder heading to the Greek Super League on a loan with an obligation to buy.

Hongla arrived in Thessaloniki over the weekend, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career after a challenging spell in Spain. The 27‑year‑old midfielder touched down at Makedonia Airport, where he was greeted by club officials ahead of medical tests and the completion of his contract formalities with Aris.

The deal, structured as a loan through the end of the current season with a mandatory purchase clause worth €1.3 million, signals Aris’ long‑term interest in the Cameroon international. The Greek club sees Hongla as a key reinforcement to bolster their midfield options and add both physical presence and experience in what promises to be a demanding second half of the season.

Hongla’s departure brings an end to his second spell with Granada, where he returned in January 2024 in a €2.5 million move from Italy’s Hellas Verona. Despite showing flashes of quality, he struggled for consistent impact, making just 62 appearances and being sidelined since September 2025 due to fitness issues and limited playing time.

For Aris, the signing represents a strategic push to strengthen the squad with a player who has top‑flight experience in Spain, Italy, and Belgium. Hongla now aims to revitalize his career in the Greek Super League and help his new club achieve its competitive goals in the second half of the season.
