NWFL: Former Delta Queens players lament recent shortchanging

After winning the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title on home soil, the issue of short-changing players is yet to die down with Delta Queens.

A recent development reaching www.kick442.com has it that the Delta State Government has a fund disbursed to the players that won the league title this week.

The worrying situation is that some players who won the title and have left the club are yet to receive the money.

As the players in the team got alert, those who left the club after the season as well as those who departed after the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers didn’t get any alert.

“We heard that the government released certain entitlements for the players that won the league last season but those of us that have left the team didn’t get any of the funds,” a former Delta Queens player who pleaded anonymity told www.kick442.com

“We have tried to call the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) but she hasn’t picked up her calls. That’s why we have decided to come to the press to help us out so that we won’t be exploited of our entitlements.”

This is not the first time the club will be in public glare for payment of players and officials entitlements.

It was reported that players planned to back out from the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers due to payment issues before they were sorted out.

The same scenario can be said about officials before their entitlements towards the WAFU-B tournament were paid.

It is left to be seen if the club will listen to the cry of the former players who contributed to the club’s success in winking the league.
