Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi has pledged to personally cover players’ bonuses if they are not paid by the authorities ahead of the Super Eagles’ upcoming match against Algeria.

Ndidi made the commitment amid concerns over unpaid bonuses, saying he had taken the step to ensure the team remains focused on preparations and performance.

I’ve been pushing the team to train and play the game vs Algeria. I’ve been doing this since the second game,”

Ndidi said, according to Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji.

I’ve now made a commitment to the staff and players that I’ll personally pay the bonuses if the authority fail to before Saturday.”

The midfielder’s intervention highlights ongoing challenges around player welfare and remuneration, issues that have periodically affected the Super Eagles in recent years. Ndidi’s stance has been widely praised as an act of leadership, aimed at shielding teammates and technical staff from distractions off the pitch.

Nigeria are scheduled to face Algeria in what is seen as an important fixture as the team looks to maintain momentum and cohesion. Ndidi’s comments underline his role not only as captain on the field, but also as a senior figure working to maintain unity and professionalism within the squad.

As of now, there has been no official response from the relevant football authorities regarding the payment of the bonuses.
