Cameroon’s combat sports Lions, Octave Ayinda and Maxwell Djantou Nana, will be in action as Africa’s top Mix Martial Arts (MMA) talent clash in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) SmartCage in the semifinals in the Heavyweight, Welterweight, Featherweight, and Bantamweight at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda on Saturday, October 18.
The information was contained in a PFL release made this Monday as the brand continues to exploits new markets.
Taking the event to Rwanda means a lot as the country has quickly established itself on the global sports map, hosting international spectacles such as the Basketball Africa League (BAL), major concerts, and high-profile competitions.
“This is a historic moment for PFL and for the sport across Africa,” said John Martin, PFL CEO. “We’re proud to bring the first-ever PFL Africa Semifinals to Kigali’s BK Arena and showcase the continent’s best on one of its premier stages.”
By bringing the PFL Africa Semifinals to Kigali, PFL is adding MMA to that list of milestone moments in Rwanda.
For starters, a few weeks back PFL organized groundbreaking events in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, one the biggest mixed martial arts and it was classed very successful.
Undefeated in seven fights, Ayinda will take on Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança in the semifinal in Rwanda as both men seek Welterweight class qualification for the finals in Benin later this year.
While Nana, who recently organized a training camp for aspiring MMA fighters in Yaounde-Cameroon, will face South Africa’s Justin Clarke.

Ayinda and Nana are eager to establish themselves as the face of PFL Africa’s Heavyweight division.
Nana’s performance at the quarterfinals in Cape Town last month showcased his immense power and determination; qualities he will need in abundance against a formidable opponent like Clarke.
The night will be headlined by Nigeria’s Patrick Ocheme as he squares off with faces Burkina Faso’s Abdoul Razac Sankara in a Featherweight semifinal main event, while the co-main event will see South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele battle it out with Zimbabwe’s Simbarashe Hokonya in the Bantamweight bracket.
The PFL Africa semifinals mark a historic step for the sport on the continent, and Cameroon’s strong representation is a clear sign of the country’s growing influence in the world of MMA.
