Francophonie gold medalist, Rose Namondo Kombe, secured a remarkable achievement by winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 50kg wrestling category at the African Beach Wrestling Championship held in Dakar.
Facing off against one of Africa’s top wrestlers, Gouleli Batio from Burkina Faso, Kombe demonstrated her prowess on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Kombe, a former football player at Legend Academy in Kumba, has been making waves in the wrestling world over the past years. Notably, at the 2023 Francophonie Games, she clinched two gold medals—one for individual competition and another for group fights—in the under 53kg category of African wrestling.
The second edition of the African Beach Wrestling Championships concluded recently at the Arène Nationale de Lutte. Over 103 wrestlers participated in the two-day tournament, competing across four weight classes in both men’s and women’s divisions.
Representing Cameroon, Namondo Kombe competed in the women’s 50kg category, while Cedric ABOSSOLO featured in the men’s 90kg category. Unfortunately, the Cameroonian team secured only one medal during the championship.
