In an encounter that counted for pride and the urge to confirm their rise in form, Union and Astres proved no side was the better one as points were shared following a one all tie.
Atangana drew first blood 12 minutes into the game benefitting from a fine back pass to outsmart Astres’ keeper.
Astres responded at the 50th minute, courtesy of a goal from Ginola Tchoyi who finished from an Ahmed Shepey miss.
Astres had another clearing opportunity to take the lead but JC 31’s attempt on target was beautifully saved by goalkeeper Wamba.
The pressure of commanding the game after taking an early lead, forced coach Bonaventure Djonkep to make a triple substitution and his opponent coach Gabriel Zabo, a double Sub on.
However, the efforts from both teams who put up a good challenge against each other, yielded no more fruits, bringing the matchday one encounter to an end on a 1-1 scoreline.
Union goes into matchday two with a point, hoping to continue on good footing after the setback of finishing second-to-the-last the previous season and suffering relegation for the first time since they became an Elite one club(30years ago)
Les Astres football club of Douala finished in a better position than Union last season but unfortunately not out of the danger zone. Just like their brother club, they officially begin their battle for promotion or in the worse case, Maintainance in the second tier championship.
