- Forwards Albert Tiku Egbe and Ekene Zama Calistus scored their first goals for the Limbe outfit
- Coach Joseph Brian Ndoko made it two wins in two games in the ISOHSA dugout
- The win takes ISOHSA into the second spot on the log ahead of their meeting in the next match day
Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe scored at the death on Thursday afternoon through Ekene Zama Calistus to narrowly-edge gritty Rangers of Bafut by 2-1 in match day ten of the 2023/24 MTN Elite Two championship.
The Limbe-based outfit dominated the game but needed the 90th minute winner from substitute to add to Tiku Albert Egbe’s first-half strike to ensure they bag home all three points to take their tally to 18 and move above Dragon FC of Yaoundé for the first time in six weeks.
The lunch time kick-off Anglo-Saxon derby in the presence of hundreds of fans at the University of Bamenda stadium didn’t disappoint.
Rangers came into the game hoping to better their 6-0 mauling in the reversed fixture and get their first win while ISOHSA was hoping to make it two wins in two games for coach Joseph Ndoko, days after his appointment as head coach.
ISOHSA’s Simo Gedeon that had come in for Ghangle Rattensi picked an early yellow card for his troubles which left him walking on the ropes for the rest of the afternoon.
Albert Tiku Egbe put the visitors ahead after 20 minutes. The ‘tricky forward’ picked a fine ball from Ngole Louis and fired into the near post to make it 1-0 and silence the home fans.
Tiku’s first goal of the season set the tone for a great afternoon for the 19-year-old as he tormented the Rangers defence all afternoon.
ISOHSA played better throughout the first segment, and took the lead to the interval though the best part of the dramatic day was still to come.
Denis Mejang equalized for the hosts just upon resumption – the midfielder beat Franck Ipoua with a volley header which hit the net after crashing under the crossbar.
With just three substitutes on the Rangers bench, ISOHSA was busier and introduced Akono Mendo Davids, Ekene Zama Calistus, Steve Bella in place of Louis Ngole, Arrey Jefta and Simo.
ISOHSA’s breakthrough for a fifth win in 11 games was delayed till the 90th minute when Ekene directed a loose ball from Steve Bella to the Rangers net to make it 2-1.
The visitors protected the advantage till the end to complete a double against Rangers FC in their first season in Elite Two.
The win takes ISOHSA points tally to 18 like Dragon but puts them ahead of Dragon on a superior goal difference going into their crunch meeting on Wednesday at the Limbe Centenary stadium.
