Fovu of Baham bottled a two-goal leaf in their first playoff game of the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship to settle for a point.
AS Fortuna of Mfou endured a tough afternoon but forced Fovu of Baham to surrrender the 2-0 advantage Monterio Doujouna and Wilfried Nana Ngaha had given the Yongwa Boys at the Bamezing stadium.
A commanding second-half performance from the center region outfit ensured a 2-2 draw sanctioned the game Fovu could have put to bed with their numerous first-half opportunities.
Fovu entered the contest on a run of three games without a win and was desperate to turn things around.
The 2000 champions pushed Fortuna in most of the first segment and were duly rewarded.
Doujouna put Fovu ahead after 24 minutes, directing a great cross into the roof of the Fortuna net.
The goal set the tone for Fovu’s dominance in the first half, and they doubled their lead just before the break with a goal from Nana in the 34th minute.
The Former NGV forward, Nana Ngaha received a well served cross and fired past the goalie to make it 2-0.
Fortuna, however, refused to go down without a fight and pulled a goal back in the 65th minute through Adrien Boris Mfoumou.
The goal injected new life into the game as Fortuna pushed for an equalizer. Though Fovu tried to remain resolute, but secured their equalizer in the 76th minute to restore parity.
Despite Fovu’s best efforts, Fortuna held on to claim a hard-fought point from a 2-2 draw.
Fovu face Avion Academy on Thursday while Fortuna will exchange soccer pleasantries with Union Sportive of Douala in match day two.
