Mohamed Salah has been named in Liverpool’s squad for their crucial Champions League meeting with Marseille, marking his return after international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian forward had been away at AFCON, which concluded last Sunday, where he played a central role for Egypt as they finished fourth. Salah scored four goals during the tournament, underlining his importance to both club and country.

Liverpool felt his absence keenly. Results and performances dipped, particularly in attack, with the team struggling to convert chances and impose themselves in decisive moments. Salah’s return is therefore viewed as a significant boost at a critical stage of the season.

The timing is especially important given Liverpool’s Champions League situation. The Reds are under pressure in their group, where dropped points earlier in the campaign have left little margin for error. The clash with Marseille is widely seen as pivotal to their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.

Victory would put Liverpool back in control of their European destiny, while another setback could leave qualification dependent on results elsewhere. With limited room for rotation, manager Jürgen Klopp will be relying on experienced players to handle the pressure.

There is, however, a setback at the back, with Ibrahima Konaté ruled out of the match. Even so, many supporters believe Salah’s return could provide the attacking spark and leadership needed to give Liverpool a much-needed lift as they look to steady their Champions League campaign and reignite their season.
