Cameroon striker Souaibou Marou, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, has officially joined Al Shabab SC, a prominent first-division team in Bahrain, for an undisclosed fee and contract length.

The 23-year-old forward has been a free agent since departing Orlando Pirates, where he struggled to find his footing, playing only 29 minutes across two appearances during the 2023-2024 season.

Before his time in South Africa, Souaibou showcased his talent on the international stage, representing Cameroon at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. His standout performances with Coton Sport were instrumental in securing the league title, which ultimately led to his Ballon d’Or accolade, highlighting him as one of the best players in Cameroon football.

As he joins Al Shabab SC, he becomes one of the club’s key signings ahead of the 2024/2025 season, which kicks off on September 21, 2024. Founded in 2001 and a 2004 Bahraini Kings Cup winner, Al Shabab has a rich history in the Bahraini Premier League, playing their home matches at the Bahrain National Stadium, which boasts a capacity of approximately 24,000.

Souaibou’s speed, technical ability, and goal-scoring prowess are expected to significantly enhance Al Shabab’s attacking options. His experience and skill set will be vital as the team aims to compete for league honors and make an impact in upcoming competitions. With his proven track record, Souaibou is poised to become a key player for Al Shabab as they look to build on their competitive legacy.
