Recently-appointed Cameroon national team head coach Marc Brys is making giant strides in his efforts to build the Indomitable Lions family that has experienced disorder in the best part of the past two years in total division and lack of the credentials of a team.
The 61-year-old Belgian tactician appointed last month to replace Rigobert Song Bahanag has proven beyond logical doubts that he has come to build a more inclusive football team than his predecessor whose stunt was marred by a chain of internal wranglings that didn’t enable honorable performances.
Brys’ just-ended European tour saw him hold talks with the likes of Andre Onana, Jean Emile Onana, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Martin Hongla who had unofficially been frozen under the previous management and importantly, he held talks with Carlos Baleba Noom Quomah of Brighton and Hove Albion who has been a long time target for the Indomitable Lions.

The Belgian ended his tour last Thursday before returning to his base in Greece after meeting over 20 players either physically and or via and online meeting which he hosted alongside his long-serving assistant Joachim Mununga.
Even if doesn’t call up all the players he has met and discussed with, the fact that he has reached out to those that had been unofficially barred from the team speaks of his approach and efforts to recapture the Indomitable Lions of the past which was characterized by a family atmosphere and willingness to commit as a unit.
Brys who had assigned his assistants to scout willing and hungry talents in other parts of the world including Cameroon is expected in Cameroon next week to intensify preparations for Cameroon’s huge commitments in the months ahead.
Meeting Baleba will add to the list of players he has held talks with in preparations for the June FIFA window and beyond.
Brys was appointed to replace Rigobert Song only last month but has since met Jean Charles Castelleto, Andre Onana Onana, Ignatius Ganago amongst others.
Brys’ Cameroon are currently top of Group D of African qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, following a win over Mauritius and an away draw with Libya.
Though Samuel Eto’o’s FECAFOOT has renounced the appointment of the new coach, Cameroon’s Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi said the mission for coach Brys is to qualify the Lions for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and ensure their commendable performance at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
