The Confederation of African Football (CAF) proceeded this Wednesday, February 1st, 2023 in Algiers, Algeria, to the draws of the final phase of the under-17 African Nations Cup.

Two-time African champions (2015 and 2017), the draws placed Mali in Group C alongside Cameroon, Burkina Faso and South Africa.

Contacted by our editorial bench in the wake of the draws, the coach of the Eaglets of Mali, Soumaila Coulibaly is optimistic by affirmed that they will make Mali proud.

“We go to Algeria very confident. We are going to give our best. It is true that the group in which we will evolve is quite tough with Cameroon, Burkina Faso and South Africa. But we will have our say. I think the group is quite poised in so far as we know the play style of our different opponents.

These are opponents that Mali is used to meeting, whether at the youth level or even senior categories … We will enter the group stages full energy. Then we’ll see later. We are used to saying that we only get better as the competition unfolds. You know it as well as I do Mali is highly rated in youth tournaments. We will make our country proud”.

Mali, which won the tournament twice (2015 and 2017), had missed the previous two editions. The Eaglets of Mali, champions of the West Africa zone A of the UFOA, return with the ambition to regain their crown.

It is worth mentioning that the competition will take place from April 29 to May 19, 2023 in Algeria.
