Leverkusen on verge of signing Matip

German champions Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of signing Cameroon international Joel Job Matip.

According to afrikafoot.com, the former Shalke 04 defender is who has spent eight seasons in England with Liverpool is on the plans of the German champions who want to strengthen their defense line.

Joel Matip’s Liverpool career came to an end on June 30th when his contract expired. In 201 appearances, Matip won 5 trophies and scored 11 goals.

Although the Cameroon international is having interest from several clubs in Europe and Asia, the experience defender is keen on returning to Germany where he sparkled during the hay days of his career.

Sources say with the imminent departure of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich, Matip is one of the favorites to replace him.

The 32-years-old defender who is valued at 8 million euros according to Transfermarkt could signed a two years deal with the the German champions.

Joel Matip made his first appearance for Cameroon against Italy in a friendly on March 3, 2010 and later played for Cameroon in the 2010 FIFA World cup.
