  • UNIFFAC have scheduled two women’s Champions League preliminary round matches at the Stade de Martyrs this Monday
  • Lekie Filles FC and Atletico Malabo will have a debutants meeting in the second game while hosts TP Mazembe Ladies clash with Diable Noirs
  • Of the four clubs in this edition of the competition, only Mazembe Ladies have emerged champions of the zone in the past

2023 Cameroon Women’s Football champions, Lekie Filles FC will begin their CAF Champions League journey this afternoon at the Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa.

The girls led by coach Stephane Ndzana will confront Atletico Malabo in their first outing of the competition, barely 24 hours after arriving oil-rich DR Congo.

Matches of match day one of the 2023/24 Women’s CAF Champions League UNIFFAC zonal tournament

Hosts TP Mazembe Ladies will open the competition with a crunch derby clash against CSM Diable Noirs at lunch time before the Cameroonians get into action against their Guinean neighbours.

Lekie, lost their founder and president last month and won the cup of Cameroon in memory of the great Koa Luc will be hoping to keep that momentum as be it as Champions League debutants.

The 18 woman squad retained for the four-club competition is made up of very experienced players, including Mogai Mogai and Michelle Moumazim who previously played in the competition under Awa Filles two years ago.

Lekie will be hoping to have a run in the competition like Awa Filles in 2022 who reached the final, but unfortunately lost to a very good TP Mazembe Ladies team.

Besides Atletico, Lekie Filles will compete with TP Mazembe Ladies and CSM Diable Noirs from DR Congo and Congo Republic for the coveted position of Union of Central African Football Federation (UNIFFAC) champions.

The rest of the matches to determine the champions of UNIFFAC and eventual representative of the zone in the continental competition will be played in the days ahead during the eight days tournament in the football-crazy city, Kinshasa.

Since inception of the Women’s CAF Champions League four years ago, only clubs from DR Congo and Equatorial Guinea have represented UNIFFAC at the continental scene. Lekie and Diable Noirs will be hoping to break the jinx and reach the money stage of the competition.
