Kenya’s Junior Harambee Starlets have received a timely morale boost ahead of their crucial FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.

The Kenyan government has pledged Ksh. 1.25 million (approximately 6 million CFA francs) to support the team as they aim to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

This financial injection comes as the team reports to camp under the guidance of coach Mildred Cheche, who is focused on preparing the squad for the challenging encounter.

The first leg of the qualifier will be played on April 18 at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for April 25 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The winner on aggregate will earn a direct ticket to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, adding immense pressure to both sides.

Kenya enters the tie with confidence after a dominant 5-0 aggregate victory over Uganda in the previous round, highlighted by Brenda Achieng’s hat-trick.

Cameroon, on the other hand, advanced to this stage with a commanding 6-2 aggregate win over Ethiopia. The team is currently on a short rest break but is expected to resume training soon to fine-tune their preparations.

With both teams in strong form, the upcoming qualifiers promise to be a tight affair, as Kenya seeks to make back-to-back World up appearances and Cameroon aims to secure their place on the global stage.

The support from the government gives the Kenyans an upper hand going into this encounter.
