Junior Atangana has resigned from his position as head coach of Awa Filles FC of Yaoundé barely four games into the new season.
A post from the club’s Facebook page on Monday revealed the manager has thrown in the towel after being unable to help the girls win a single game in five outings so far in the 2024/25 Guinness Super League.
Four defeats and a draw so far had caused fans and diehards of the club to call for his resignation as they watch their team languishing at the base of the classification table.
The departure of coach Atangana leaves the club management with the huge task of finding an available manager capable of stirring the club to victory as soon as possible and through these days of limited resources and quality.
The multiple Cameroon champions and 2022 UNIFFAC zonal Champions League semi finalist will be hoping to hit the ground running this season on Saturday as they welcome fellow strugglers and newly promoted Cyclone Filles FC of Douala at lunch time at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé.
At the moment, there has been any information on possible candidates to replace Atangana though we understand the club’s management is working on a number of profiles proposed to them so far.
Awa, winners of the Guinness Super League twice in the past four years have struggled since the start of last season due to limited budget and was tipped favourite for relegation before the start of the current season as they didn’t bring in quality in the close season window despite their struggles last season.
