Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip is reportedly readying himself to leave the club at the end of the season despite having a contract that runs till June 2024.
Liverpool is expected to look to make some reinforcements in a number of positions including in the center of defense this summer as Matip and mate Van Dijk.
The 31-year-old has been used 11 times in the Premier League and unsatisfactory number of times in all competitions by Jurgen Klopp this campaign, but he has been out of the starting lineup for the Reds’ last six Premier League matches.
Matip’s last appearance was coming on a second-half substitute in their 5-2 defeat Real Madrid two weeks ago.
According to multiple British sources, the former Cameroon international is looking for a new club as he wants regular playing time.
Matip, joined Liverpool from Schalke 04 in 2016 and has made over 184 appearances and scored ten goals for the club.
During his time so far at Anfield, Matip won one Premier League title, one FA Cups, one Capital 1 Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Champions League among other individual accolades.
