DR Congo outsmarted Uganda 1-0 in a friendly encounter played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala – Cameroon this Wednesday June 14, 2023, courtesy of a goal from Cadiz Winger, Bongonda Theo.

Author of a penalty, Theo converted the lone goal at the 26th minute from the spot, after his attempt at goal was stopped by the hands of Ugandan striker, Bayo Fahad Aziz upon trying to clear danger.

DR Congo’s Starting XI

The cranes were totally dominated in the first segment of the game, with very few goal scoring opportunities attempted only during the last minutes before the break.

Goalkeeper Baggio Siadi only touched the ball after 34 minutes of play. This is to say, DR Congo made use of Uganda’s own half of the pitch until after half the hour mark.

The Leopards maintained the one goal lead until the break and 13 minutes into the last segment, coach Sebastien Desabre reinforced with a triple substitution, bringing in Wisaa Yoane at attack, Balikwisha at the midfield at Masuaku Kawela Arthur at defense.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic carried out his first substitute before the start of the second half bringing out goalkeeper Magoola Salim Omar for substitute keeper, Lukwago Charles who had a good game.

Bongonda partnered with two co-strikers to almost double the lead at 63rd minute of play as he managed to beat goalkeeper Charles who came out for the ball but a timely save from Gift Fred, cancelled their chance.

The Cranes equally had the opportunity to level scores when Karisa Milton got a one on one chance with goalkeeper Baggio but his shot was stopped, a scene that saw coach Milutin terribly furious and disappointed.

Uganda’s starting XI

Uganda will host already qualified Algeria in Cameroon on Sunday, at the Japoma Stadium, in search of a second place finish to the final of the competition to take place in Cote D’ivoire next year, as they seat 3rd, level on points with Tanzania(4pts).

Meanwhile DR Congo will travel to face group leaders, Gabon at home on Sunday, June 18, equally a must win game for the Leopards.
