  • Sacha Boey has indicated his connection to Cameroon and the Lions via Instagram
  • The Galatasaray full-back previous turned down offers to play for Cameroon
  • He has been expecting calls from France, but these days the likelihood is low
  • Sacha has made seven Champions League appearances this season for the Turkish champions

Sacha Boey has manifested his interest in the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon via a social media post making rounds on social media this Monday, September 25.

In a strange twist, the Galatasaray full-back took to Instagram to post a photo of a Lion and a finger emoji pointing the Lion with a Cameroon flag underneath, as if to say he is interested in representing those values.

Is Sacha Boey luring the interest of the national team staff?

Sacha, 23, turned down previous advances from Antonio Conceicao and Rigobert Song, but with interest from France looking far-fetched, the French-born Cameroon-descent half-back seems to be contemplating a switch of allegiance.

The timing of his latest move looks to be tailor-made as Cameroon is struggling to get a top level right-back due to the absence of Fai Collins who has been the first choice since 2017.

Coach Rigobert Song is faced with a difficult situation – Olivier Mbaizo who played in the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Burundi has never lived up to expectations, while Enzo Tchato is struggling for game time at Montpelier in the French Ligue 1 and the other option Malcom Bokele is attached to second tier French side Girondin of Bordeaux.

It remains to be seen if the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) officials will turn attention to the youngster after turning down an initial request in 2021; even after he met with national team officials in Europe.

Sacha has been a regular in the Turkish top-flight championship and the UEFA Champions League this season; wracking up 13 appearances so far in both competitions.

His arrival on the eve of the 2023 AFCON in Côte D’Ivoire could be a welcomed development for the Indomitable Lions.

The technical crew of the five-time African champions are expected to name a squad in the days ahead for next month’s international friendly against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in Lens, France.
