- The upcoming match between Cameroon and Kenya has been relocated from Japoma Stadium to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé
- This follows a CAF inspection that accredited only two of the five venues visited in Cameroon
- With both sides tied on points in Group J, the stakes are high for this pivotal encounter
The upcoming clash between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Kenya has been officially relocated from Japoma Stadium in Douala to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.
This pivotal match, part of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is set to kick off on October 11, 2024, at 5 p.m. The decision was announced in a communique from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) on Thursday, October 3.
“Cameroon-Kenya match originally scheduled to be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on Friday 11 October 2024 will now be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé on the same day at 5 p.m.” the communique reads
The recent venue switch follows the findings of a CAF inspection report, which resulted in the accreditation of only two out of five visited venues in Cameroon. The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé and the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam have been deemed suitable for hosting international fixtures.
“The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé and the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam are the only venues approved by CAF to host matches on day three of the TotalEnergies Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers” the communique explains
The Indomitable Lions, currently positioned second in Group J and tied on points with Kenya, are expected to replicate their performance against Cape Verde, the last team they played in the stadium.
Both Brys and Kenya’s coach, Engin Firat, have unveiled their respective squads for this high-stakes fixture.
This match will mark a return to Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium for the Indomitable Lions, who last played here during the World Cup qualifiers in June. The stakes are high as Cameroon seeks redemption following a frustrating draw against Zimbabwe in previous qualifiers. The reverse fixture is scheduled for October 14 in Kampala, Uganda.
As preparations ramp up, both teams are keenly aware of the significance of this match in their quest for AFCON qualification.
