Ignatius Ganago forced off injured in Nantes’ 1-0 win away at Clermont

FC Nantes’ striker, Ignatius Kpene Ganago could be out for months as he was left in tears, and later seen heading out of the stadium on crutches, after being forced off by injury against Clermont Foot in a French Ligue 1 game on Sunday.

Ganago went down after 38 minutes when he lost his footing while jostling to shield the ball. He did the splits as he fell and was evidently in discomfort, holding his left leg.

Though he looked badly injured from the beginning, the match officials seemed to think the former EFBC and OGC Nice forward was feigning injury and appeared reluctant to allow his club’s physios onto the pitch at first.

The club’s medical team eventually came on and treated him on the pitch before taking him off.

The 24-year-old who has made three Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes this season was in tears as physios helped him hobble off.

He received a hug from a Nantes physio and the head coach put his arm around him as he made his way off the pitch.

Nantes have confirmed the Cameroon international has injured his medial collateral ligament.

The latest injury cast doubts in Ganago’s chances of participation at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Côte D’Ivoire, having missed the final round of qualifier match which his club colleague Jean Charles Castelletto also missed due to a suspension.
