Tongues are wagging in the media space and beyond following the release of Cameroon’s 23-Woman squad to clash with Nigeria at home and away in the final qualifying round of the Paris 2024 Olympics games.

The under fire gaffer whose team failed to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) released a 23-player squad this Saturday via the official handles of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has seen the omission of 15-goal striker Kameni Alice Flora of FC Ebolowa who was initially named in the provisional squad that was in camp for over two weeks.

Coach Bisseck’s 23 players has seen the return of last season’s Guinness Super League best defender, Annecy Nguiadem while Mayi Kith among others have been left out.

The squad to enter camp next Monday includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and six forwards.

Last season’s Guinness Super League goalkeeper of the season Onomo Etaba Christemilie Ornelle of FC Ebolowa is one of two home-based keepers reserved alongside Biya Cathy of Éclair of Sa’a. The home based keepers will compete with Bihina Michaely of Racing Power of Portugal, the first choice in recent times.

The eight defenders picked include Maague Mariane Ines amongst four players from the domestic championship while France-based Falone Mefoumettou, Ndzana Collette, Nguiadem Annecy plying her trade in Turkey these days joins the defenders in the squad that has some interesting midfield and attacking options.

Cameroon that eliminated Uganda in the previous round of the qualifiers is preparing to host Nigeria on February 23 in Douala, before traveling to the Falcons nest three days later for the second-leg of the clash to produce one of Africa’s Paris 2024 Olympic games representative.

Ahead of the game, under fire gaffer Jean Baptiste Bisseck has made some interesting decisions.
